BLACKBERRY COUNTER ATTACK 3G IPHONE

RIM ties up with HP for applications and services for BlackBerry smartphones.

The manufacturer of BlackBerry smartphones, Canada 's Research In Motion (RIM) has tied up with the US provider of computer networking hardware and software services, Hewlett-Packard, to offer applications and services, including BlackBerry Enterprise Server 5.0 software and a print service, for Blackberry devices. The RIM and H-P on Monday confirmed the strategic tie-up, under which, the H-P will provide HP CloudPrint for BlackBerry Smartphones.

According to H-P, the HP CloudPrint is web-based technology that allows users to print e-mails, photos, documents, and Web pages from their BlackBerrys to the nearest printer, regardless of the printer manufacturer. The technology will be showcased at this week's Wireless Enterprise Symposium in Orlando , Florida .

In a joint statement, RIM and H-P stated that the print service HP CloudPrint will enable Blackberry users to print emails, documents, photos and Web pages from their Blackberry smartphones wirelessly from anywhere. Commenting on HP CloudPrint, H-P said, "The service is printer-agnostic and driverless, and requires simple Internet access."

The executive vice president of HP's technology solutions group, Ann Livermore stated that emerging models of communications and collaboration have created an opportunity for RIM and HP to provide service-based mobile solutions that deliver value to customers.

In a statement, the co-chief executive officer of Research In Motion, Jim Balsillie said, "RIM and HP are working together to deliver solutions to customers that weave mobility into their daily operations--from innovative new services in the cloud to managed mobile services for the enterprise. Through our collaboration with HP, businesses will have access to an expanded set of applications and services for their BlackBerry smartphone deployments."

According to H-P, its servers will come bundled with the BalckBerry Enterprise Server software as well as the option of HP's Operations Manager software, and its outsourcing specialist will offer a management service for corporate BlackBerry networks.
