Mobile operator Zain has launched a cross border data services across the Middle East and in the East African region on it "One Network" platform.
With the rising competition in the mobile telephony arena, operators have switched the focus to data services for their users. Data services enable mobile telephony users to browse the internet using their handset.
Though the then Celtel and current Zain launched the One Network platform in East Africa towards the end of the year 2006 to allow subscribers use the same number across the region as if the were using their home network, customers were still awaiting when the use of data services would work the same way.
Zain has made the system by using the GRX technology to ensure faster access speeds at local rate.
The GPRS Roaming Exchange - GRX is mobile technology that acts as a turning plate for GPRS connections from roaming users, removing the need for a dedicated link between each GPRS service provider.
Being the first in East Africa , subscribers are waiting the expansion of this service to the all of countries with the Zain network.
