Koffi Olomide and his group the Quartier Latin were in series of performance all through the last weekend. They were celebrating the 23rd anniversary of Koffi’s solo musical carreer and that of his group the Quartier Latin. Some fellow musicians came to celebrate with him many did not show up citing other commitment. The very remarkable absentee was his former mentor Papa Wemba who had a serie of performance in the Central of Africa republic.

Koffi Olomide can be described as the most successful Congolese musician in both career and wealth. Also known and fondly called Mopao Mokonzi, Koffi Olomide musical career wasn’t a smooth ride. He started singing while as a student in France than later joined Papa Wemba before going solo in 1986.

Having brought a new touch in the Congolese musical scene that was dominated by big shots like Franco Luambo Makiadi, Koffi and his group Quartier Latin were well received especially by young people. His audience grew every time he went to the studio. This not only changed his life but also his behavior.

Mopao Mokonzi is arguably the most conflictual fellow in the Democratic Republic of Congo. He has collided with all famous musicians for one reason or another. He is also notorious of acting the “juice extractor”. He hires young talents or even already established musicians from competitors than dump them like trash.

Though hasn’t succeeded in his previous marital encounters, Koffi Olomide married three years ago and he is a proud father of a bouncing boy. All his other kids kept good relations with their father except his first born child. The rebellious boy who resides in Belgium has never forgiven his father for having abandoned his mother. He is known to disrupt Koffi’s concerts in Belgium and sometimes even France.
