Congolese Diaspora goes on rampage against government
By Jerry Nguwa, Nairobi.
August 31, 2009

In many countries around the world, the biggest critics to the regimes are the lots living outside the national boundaries. They are known to be the one alerting the international community and Non governmental organization on the happenings in their motherlands. They are activities are usually useful but in some cases barbaric. A new crop of such critics is now identifying itself with the Congolese Diaspora

For quiet sometimes, the Congolese elite are a worried lot when on a trip outside the country. The Congolese Diaspora has shown to be intolerant to “those who are bringing” the country down. The Diaspora in the Schengen space has proved to be the most notorious. They threaten, undress, and beat up all those they think are “traitors”.

As we witnessed in 2005, the head of the Independent Electoral Commission, Father MALU – MALU was aggressed and escaped being beaten up by a whisker. But some collaborators to President Kabila and members of his then party PPRD were not so lucky; they were Christophe Muzungu who served as Minister of Art and Culture and Vital Kamerhe who served as speaker of the national assembly until this year.

The majority of the cases entirely target everyone supporting the current regime. The most notorious communities in the Diaspora are based in the United Kingdom and Belgium. They are known to have targeted politicians, church leaders, musicians, activists…

In London, a former chief of staff for president Kabila advisor was beaten, undressed and the video of the scene posted on You Tube. The last of the victims is a Member of Parliament and a dissident of Jean Pierre Bemba and now supporter of Joseph Kabila, Yves Kisombe. Honorable Kisombe was beaten and undressed. Some pictures of his ordeal in the English capital are already circulating on the internet.

In the Belgian Kingdom, apart of aggression cases, Hapamedia is in possession of a letter addressed to the current Congolese Ambassador to the throne, Mr. Mova Sakani. The diplomat is accused of having being posted in Brussels to eliminate prominent opposition members. In letter he is warned not to interfere with the activities of the “activists” if he really does wish to return home.

Last year, the bigget Congolese music star, Koffi Olomide had to cancel a concert in France and later a tour in Belgium. Like some of his colleagues, he was blamed for having written and sang a campaign song for Joseph Kabila during the 2006 campaign period. Though attackers are from different political affiliations, the bigger number is believed to be drawn from former opposition leader, Etienne Tshisekedi’s party, the UDPS.
