Clinton targeted by terrorists during visit in Nairobi
By Jerry Nguwa
September 6, 2009, Nairobi

American Secretary of State and former first lady, Hillary Rodham Clinton was targeted by Al Qaeda during a recent tour of Africa where she attended to the African Growth and Opportunity Act – AGOA – meetings in Nairobi. The plot conceived by Al Qaeda and to be executed by Al Shabab followers in Nairobi was meant to detonate three bombs simultaneously at three strategic locations.

The Kenyan Sunday Nation reproduced a recount of the failed plan by an anonym senior counter – terrorism official who revealed that the targets were the Intercontinental Hotel, the Kencom Bus Stage and its adjacent Hilton Hotel. Mrs Clinton stayed at the Hotel Intercontinental.

The fatal plan intended to be an insult to the American government was cooked in Somalia by Al Shabaab with the participation of senior Al Qeada and FBI most wanted individual like Saleh Nabhan. But Kenyan security officials intercepted communications and arrested Al Shabaab contacts a week before the trade meeting.

It’s important to note that Al Shabaab operates widely in Kenya sometimes to the full knowledge of Kenyan authorities. It sometimes gets to bribe its way into the Kenyan judiciary to block deportation order against their point men. It also manages to get Kenyan travel documents for its operant.

The Al Shabaab is also believed to be carrying ideological meetings with the youth drawn mainly from the Somali community to adhere to the many combatants battalion it already operates with. A Kenyan government initiative led by Vice President Kalonzo Musyoka is already implemented to counter Al Shabaab recruitment in Kenyan territory.
