Daring Kenyan preacher goes for top job in a U.S.A state

By Jerry Nguwa

Nairobi July 27 2009

Since the successful ascencion on Barack Obama to the presidency of the United States of America , the wave of non indigenous vying for political seats has been noticed almost all over the world. Some politicians of colour have been elected in Belgium , Germany , Italy and some others even trying in Russia . Russia is actually the most conservative country in the world.

The wave is now back in the United States of America with a Kenyan born Preacher eyeing the California governor seats. The move has been widely seen as a daring one. Because California is the most powerful federal state in the U.S.

California state has an economy that could put it in the top ten powerful if it's was a country apart. Out of the fifty states (50) that comprises the United States of America , California alone contribute 13 percent to the national Gross Domestic Product (GDP). Vying the governor of that state is prestigious move.

But this will not deter Dr. Mwangi, the Kenyan preacher. In an interview with the East African standard at his home in Los Angeles , he acknowledges that even Kenyans in the United States had received the news with a lot of scepticism and cynicism.

Apart of being a not so well known person in California , Mwangi will need a deep pocket to match the campaign budget of other contenders. And also most importantly have an agenda for the state. The reverend with his campaign team are yet to indentify problems affecting California to outline his blue print.

Dr. Mwangi who is to contend on a democratic ticket, has first to beat California 's Attorney General Jerry Brown and San Francisco Mayor Gavin Newsom to face most probably the incumbent Arnold Schwarzenegger.

One question remains, are Americans ready to vote for an African born American who emigrate to U.S at a mature age?
