From May 30 to June 3, 2022, a business summit is underway in Kinshasa bringing together the Democratic Republic of Congo and Uganda in order to maximize trade between the two member countries of the Central Corridor.
The theme of this summit is « boosting trade between the DRC and Uganda »
Present at these meetings, the Ugandan Deputy Prime Minister in charge of East African Community Affairs, Rebecca Alitwala describes this summit as very important.
“This summit is very important because our peoples have been trading informally. This business summit not only makes the exchanges formal but also identifies issues that need to be solved on both sides. We are also meeting to identify the products that the Democratic Republic of Congo could export to Uganda and vice versa. This collaboration is no longer bilateral having in mind that the DRC is currently a member of the East African community. This is a higher level of collaboration. »
The summit will also cover the development of strategies to facilitate trade, traceability and security of goods.
A Congolese economic operator operating within the Central Corridor present at this summit says he is motivated by the quest for knowledge that the summit offers in relation to trade between the two countries, the DRC and Uganda.
