On Wednesday March 22, 2023 in Bukavu, a meeting was held to present the report on the feasibility studies of the Luberizi-Kamanyola-Bukavu section by the International Agency of Consultants and Technocrats, which is the author. The meeting took place in the presence of representatives of the Executive Secretary of the Central Corridor Transit Transport Facilitation Agency, CCTTFA, Engineer Zayituni Nakonde and Mr. Mathieu Malumbi, Provincial Minister of Transport and Communication Channels of South Kivu , representing the provincial government among several experts from the national ministries of infrastructure and transport, the representative of the office des routes the state road agency.
The interim results of the said study funded by the Central Corridor Transit Transport Facilitation Agency, CCTTFA, offered several recommendations, including;
- The diversion of the road to Businga at the height of the Ngomo escarpments.
- They also recommended to rebuild this road , build new bridges and add others in some places.
These studies also show that the Luberizi-Kamanyola-Bukavu road, 89 km long, is totally dilapidated and will have to be rebuilt. Several bridges no longer exist and others are in an advanced state of disrepair. On the few places where the asphalt still exists, the road has cracks and a large portion totally degraded.
the International Agency of Consultants and Technocrats has also carried out studies on safety and the environment and proposes upstream the construction of this road passing through Businga without passing through Ngomo, which will cost less because it is 20 kilometers short and better according to soil studies. The International Agency of Consultants and Technocrats says the second part of their study is due to start by March and the results are to be presented in June.
Representing the Governor of South Kivu at these meetings, the Minister of Transport and Communication Routes Mathieu Malumbi at the microphone of our colleagues from Kivu Times welcomed the results of this study and asked government experts to work conscientiously for the validation of this study and allow the effective start of the works.
We asked the government experts who are present in the room to work with professionalism, to work conscientiously because it is in our interest, it is in the interest of our country and it is in the interest of our province that it is we the South Kivus who are the first beneficiaries of this project. The corridor is there to support the government and we too must do our best to make this project happen. The road passes through our villages and the villagers must get involved to protect the agents who will do this work.
Mathieu Malumbi
For his part, Ir Zayituni Nakonde representing the Executive Secretary of the AFTTCC, the lawyer Flory Okandju Okonge asked the consultants who conducted this study to integrate into it the advice and proposals that will be given during the meetings of the parties. stakeholders.
In principle the central corridor does not provide funds for the construction of roads. The central corridor facilitates, makes available some funds for the realization of the studies. But when the studies are completed, we fund fundraising meetings. We had already started with the African Development Bank, the fundraising for the execution of the works. If not, it is not in its remit to finance the work but to facilitate the realization of the project
Ir Zayituni Nakonde
For three days, the participants in this workshop discussed the proposals and enriched this study report and validated it.
