The Central Corridor Transit Transport Facilitation Agency, CCTTFA, a technical body for the support and development of multimodal infrastructure in the central corridor region, is making progress in the transport sector thanks to extensive lobbying by its Executive Secretary, Senior Counsel Flory Okanju Okonge.

The government of the Democratic Republic of Congo, DRC, has committed to disburse its share of the funds allocated for the feasibility studies and the engineering design of the electrified standard gauge railway project linking the cities of Gitega and Bujumbura in Burundi in Uvira and Kindu in the DRC as agreed during the signing of the contract on March 30, 2023 in Kinshasa between the republic of Burundi and the DRC.

This information emerges from the minutes of the 97th meeting of the Council of Ministers chaired by the Head of State, Felix Antoine Tshisekedi Tshilombo. It was during this meeting that the Minister of Transport, Ways of Communication and Disenclavement submitted to the Council of Ministers which recorded this information.

This development comes a few days after the visit of the Executive Secretary of the CCTTFA, Mr. Flory Okanju to Kinshasa and Lubumbashi during his diplomatic shuttle in Central and Southern Africa.

In Lubumbashi on May 13, 2023, the Executive Secretary got involved in mobilizing funds for the transport infrastructure project to improve the business climate between the DRC and Tanzania via Lake Tanganyika.
