With the aim of validating the preliminary report of the feasibility and engineering studies of the Uvinza-Musongati – Gitega standard gauge railway construction project in Burundi, the members of the central corridor steering committee met in Bujumbura under the facilitation of the Central Corridor Transit Transport Facilitation Agency, CCTTFA, under the theme “All for a momentum of acceleration”.

This project of great economic and social importance remains a priority for the entire region, underlined the Executive Secretary of the Central Corridor Transit Transport Facilitation Agency, CCTTFA, Counsel Flory Okandju Okonge.

Explaining the rationale for this meeting, the Executive Secretary of the CCTFA said:

We received the consultant’s report… and submitted it to the member states. It is up to them to validate the consultant’s report and that is why we are gathered here. Before this meeting of the steering committee, we had appointed experts who preceded us here and worked with the consultant for six (6) days and made recommendations. It is at the end of this session that the steering committee is here to examine the report of the joint technical committee. »

The regional support and monitoring unit for the activities of the DRC transport corridor was present and asked the consultant to bring amendments to the next meeting for validation.

Made up of 6 member states, the central corridor makes economic diplomacy its focus to enable the development of industries and the multimodal transport network.
